"I looked out the window and the entire street was orange," Darrin Lawyer describes the moments after he heard a loud bang around 6:30 Sunday morning.

He says he immediately called 911.

"The church was up in flames," he said.

Lawyer lives across from the St. Stephen AME Church off Winyah Road. By noon, crews were still on the scene putting out hot spots. No one was hurt in the blaze.

State representative Carl Anderson is the pastor at St. Stephen. He says the community will rebuild the church.
