For the first time, we're seeing inside the new cardiac wing at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
About 100 people attended a dedication and open house for the 90,000 square foot addition. The wing includes 50 new beds.
The tour of the $54 million expansion included lists of prices so visitors could see just where the money went.
The hospital's CEO, Doug White, says the addition means quick and more convenient service for patients.
"Should someone have a heart attack and EMS pick them up in an ambulance, they transmit wirelessly an EKG reading into the hospital. Our cardiac cath lab team is ready and waiting at the back door of this building to take the patient directly from the ambulance into the cardiac cath lab," White said.
Admissions to the wing begin October 24.
