A motorcycle wreck on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach has severely injured the female passenger on the bike.

North Myrtle Beach City Spokesman Pat Dowling says about 3:30pm Thursday, a car headed northbound on Highway 17 hit the motorcycle and the impact pushed the bike into a car headed southbound on Highway 17.

Dowling says a man was driving the bike with a female passenger. Her leg was amputated in the knee area. Both were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

As of 4:30pm, crews were still working the accident site, which is about 100 yards north of Williams Carpet, but on Highway 17. Cleanup is expected to take about an hour. Highway 17 southbound traffic is being detoured to Old Highway 17. Northbound traffic is open.
