The U.S. Department of Justice has given Horry County preclearance for it's redistricting plans.

Every 10 years the county is required to redraw voting district lines based on population shifts reflected by the U.S. Census.

On September 15th, the county received word from the D.O.J. that they were giving Horry County preclearance on it's plan, meaning they don't have additional questions or need to review the plan.

County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier says the new districts will be used for Horry County elections starting with the June 2012 primary.
