(AP) -- The national offices of University of South Carolina fraternities are investigating alleged alcohol violations that caused college officials to freeze membership recruitment.
The directors of some of the six fraternities cited by the university said Monday they're investigating whether their chapters violated rules and whether they face punishment apart from whatever the school decides.
School officials say in one case, a student ended up in the hospital.
Pi Kappa Phi CEO Mark Timmes says alcohol has no place in recruiting members, and the national fraternity supports the university's decision to halt rush last week. Kappa Sigma executive director Mic Wilson says its chapter has been suspended pending the investigation.
The university is holding a campus-wide discussion Monday afternoon on the behavior that led to the freeze.
