(AP) -- Authorities say a 15-year-old McCormick County teen has died after his all-terrain vehicle crashed into a tree.
The Augusta Chronicle reports DaJaun Willingham of Clarks Hill was making a right turn on an Edgefield County road when he lost control of the ATV and hit a tree about 9:40 p.m. Sunday.
The coroner's office said an autopsy was being performed Monday.
SC Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth says both Willingham and his 22-year-old passenger were thrown from the ATV. Willingham was wearing a helmet. Passenger Brandon Eubanks received minor injuries and called for help.
A new ATV safety law approved this year by South Carolina legislators requires anyone under age 16 to take a safety course and wear a helmet and eye protection.
At least four teens have been killed in ATV accidents in South Carolina since June.
