The South Carolina Forestry Commission says rain and hard word has helped the Hornet fire become 95 percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon.

The fire has burned 1,374 acres in the Carolina Forest area of Horry County since it started 4th of July weekend.

Investigators say fireworks caused the Hornet fire.

Scott Hawkins with the Forestry Commission says the expect to decommission a large amount of the 20-25 people on the ground Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"Less than half of that staff should be there by tomorrow," Hawkins said.

He added the rain has brought out some interesting creatures along fire lines and in Forestry's staging area.

Crews found a crawfish Wednesday morning, and what they say appears to be a giant cottonmouth snake the same afternoon.

"He was about two, two and a half feet long," Hawkins said.
