MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a former South Carolina state police agent shot and killed a woman, then himself, outside a bank in Moncks Corner.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 61-year-old Charlie Boyette shot 44 year-old Mary Ann Cox on Friday afternoon outside a bank where Cox worked.

Boyette then went behind the building and turned the gun on himself.

SLED officials said Boyette resigned July 20, a day after he was suspended following an assault complaint made by Cox. Authorities say the pair had been in a relationship that ended several weeks before, and Cox wanted Boyette to stay away from her.

SLED Chief Mark Keel had asked Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt to investigate the assault complaint.

Agents say Boyette had worked at SLED since 2000.
