The Atlantic Beach Town Council met for the first time Monday night since the South Carolina State Supreme Court ruled two of their incumbents have to leave office.

Incumbents Charlene Taylor and Josephine Isom sat with the council Monday night.

This past Thursday, the state's highest court ruled the two should not have taken office because two write-in candidates from a November 2009 election got the most votes.

The Atlantic Beach Election Commission decided in favor of the incumbents and ordered a new election.

The two write in candidates appealed, and Chief Justice Jean Toal upheld the original results.

Isom and Taylor have 10-15 days to appeal the Supreme Court ruling, which is why they were still on the board Monday night, though Taylor told NewsChannel 15 last week she will not appeal.

A new Atlantic Beach Election Commission was also sworn in Monday.
