U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says Gary Cook Dixon, 46, of Florence, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday in federal court for distribution of child pornography.
U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell sentenced Dixon with the following stipulations: supervised release for life (with the first three years with home detention with electronic monitoring), register as a sex offender, receive sex offender treatment, and to undergo random polygraphs for life.
According to Nettles, FBI agents in Maryland, acting in an undercover capacity, signed on to a peer file sharing program on the internet and downloaded files being offered by Dixon containing child pornography.
Nettles says Dixon was sharing thousands of child pornography files, and Dixon's computer, which was seized, also contained child pornography.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
