Horry County Fire Rescue, North Myrtle Beach and Calabash firefighters first responded to the fire around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Horry County Fire Rescue Chief Gary Alderman says some diesel tanks stored in a barn caught fire on Sandridge Road, and they had to evacuate some residents.
No one was hurt.
Don Kelley owns Econo Storage. He said, "My 91-year-old grandfather, my father and I eat at Hot Stacks on Ocean Drive every morning and when I arrived this morning my father was barreling out of the parking lot and they told me when I came across Robert Edge Parkway, it looked like a bomb had gone off with the smoke. I got here and my father was backing his truck out and the front end of it was on fire."
Horry County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kenny Todd says the fire is under investigation.
Alderman says all three RV's were being stored at the property, so no one was displaced by the fire.
The fire also destroyed golf carts, a tractor and other equipment inside the barn.
Kelley was nearly brought to tears when he thought of the horse barn's history and the memories that were destroyed.
"We won 27 world championships out of the barn and a lot of the pictures are gone."
After the first fire had been put out, and firefighters had left the scene, a second fire was called in around noon Thursday.
That fire destroyed one of the mobile homes nearby.
Alderman says that home was occupied, so the home owner has been displaced. He says that fire could have been caused by a smoldering ember from the first fire, but the cause hasn't been determined. The cause of the first fire is also still under investigation.
Fire officials say three departments responded to the first fire off Sandridge Road.
