(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina legislators have approved plans that redraw their own districts and the districts of U.S.House seats.

The House voted 92-24 on new election boundary lines for representatives' 124 seats. The chamber later voted 83-25 to approve lines for seven congressional seats. That includes one additional seat because of population growth over the past decade.

Under the House plan, the seat would be added along the state's coast and counties bordering North Carolina including Horry and parts of Florence County.

The plans require another perfunctory vote in that chamber. The Senate must also approve new lines for its seats and congressional lines.

Redistricting is required every decade following the Census to make sure legislative and congressional districts properly represent the state's population.
