DARLINGTON -- A Darlington man, who spent time in Iraq as a civil contractor and served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, has written an award winning screenplay about the military efforts in Afghanistan.
He's dedicated the work to his wife.
William and Kate Blackmon are still smiling. Besides sharing the names of the newly married royals, William recently won the Golden Crescent Award at the Charleston International Film Festival for his screenplay based on his novel titled "The Feather Keeper."
He beat out about 400 others with his story about a three Native American men who try to take down a terrorist and the Taliban army in Afghanistan.
William says his wife's love and support inspired him to write the fictional adventure novel.
William and Kate met in London in 2006 and were married a year later.
The book is his first in a six part series.
They hope the "The Feather Keeper" will one day be made into a movie.
