When it began in 1981 only a few hundred came to the Blue Crab Festival inLittle River.

More than 45,000 people were counted Sunday afternoon at the 30th annual outdoor event. Organizers say more than 250 vendors featured artwork, music, food, and crafts.

Co-organizer Craig Hill has been working on the festival for the past 10 years. He says they could have never imagined how big the festival has grown.

"It's a large task to put it together but its really rewarding. The people have a lot of fun, the venders have a lot of fun, our sponsors are excited because it's a good event. It's the best thing in Little River every year," Hill said.

Organizers say they had more people attend Sunday than Saturday. The Blue Crab festival is held each year in May on the weekend after Mother's Day.

In the past 3 years, the Blue Crab Festival has contributed over $110,000 to local charities.
