More than 100 clients attended a North Strand Helping Hand monthly food distribution at the Atlantic Beach Community Center Saturday afternoon. The group gave out more than 5,100 pounds of food, retailing at more than $8,000.

The group buys the food from the Lowcountry food bank, so they are able to get it at thousands of dollars less. In total, the organizer paid $622.12 for the food.

Margaret Owens, Executive Director says it's a blessing to see so many people receiving the food.

"Not only that it's a wonderful thing for the volunteers that we have here," she adds.

North Strand Helping Hand's website says cash donations sometimes help them more than food donations because they can buy at such a discount.
