RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Wake County officials are moving dozens of storm victims from church and school shelters to apartment-style housing available on the campus of North Carolina State University.

American Red Cross spokesman Keith Acree said Saturday that the dormitories would provide families with more privacy and comfort while the county helps find them more permanent housing.

Neither Acree nor Wake County spokeswoman Sarah Williamson-Baker had a firm count of how many people would be moved Saturday.

Acree says the two shelters being closed had about 180 people total after two dozen tornadoes touched down in North Carolina on April 16.

The storms killed at least 24 people statewide and damaged thousands of buildings.
