COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina lieutenant governors and governors would run on a ticket and be elected jointly under legislation a Senate committee is scheduled to debate.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday is scheduled to take up that measure as well as one that would make the state's education superintendent an appointed position with the Legislature approving that choice.

Both measures are constitutional amendments and would require a two-thirds vote to clear the full Senate and get on the ballot in November 2012. The House overwhelmingly approved both measures last month.

If voters approve, the joint elections for governor and lieutenant governor would begin in 2014.
