The Surfside Beach Town Council met Tuesday night.
On the agenda: whether to accept or make changes to uniform beach rules recommended by the Coastal Alliance.
The Coastal Alliance is made up of the Horry County Council Chairman and coastal mayors in Horry County. They have approved a list of 23 ordinances for things like fishing, beach tents, and pets on the beach. The goal is to make all of the rules the same as tourists travel from beach to beach.
Right now, Surfside Beach doesn't allow pets on the beach at all during the summer, while some other cities do after peak hours. Surfside also allows fireworks on the beach on the 4th of July. Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach do not.
They voted to postpone making a decision Tuesday night, opting for a workshop. Mayor Allen Deaton says that will likely happen at the beginning of their April 26th town council meeting.
"It gives council time to digest the 23 recommendations," he added. "They're pretty complicated, but there are a lot of similarities between the municipalities. It's not really that big of a deal, but it is on a couple of small issues."
The rules must be passed by each coastal city council and Horry County Council to take effect.
