Southwest Airlines begins service out of Charleston as well as Greenville-Spartanburg on Sunday, March 13.
The discount carrier, which previously had no offerings to the Palmetto State, will offer seven daily, non-stop routes from Charleston to Washington D.C./Baltimore, Chicago, Nashville and Houston.
The company announced its expanded flight schedule out of South Carolina last year.
Tourism officials estimate Southwest's service will save travelers about $180 million each year in airfare.
Myrtle Beach International Airport officials think the new flights will give travelers more options and don't think the new flights out of Charleston will have an impact on service out of the Grand Strand.
According to a 2010 Zagat survey, Southwest Airlines swept several satisfaction categories, including best value among domestic airlines. The carrier also swept the list when it comes to the best luggage police, best check-in experience and best consumer on-time estimates.
