CONWAY -- Deeane R. Smith pleaded guilty Wednesday to Burglary 1st Degree, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, according to Assistant Solicitor Candice A. Lively.
Smith was inside a woman's home in Little River in June 2009, when she arrived home. She told police a man came out of the kitchen with a gun and demanded money. She said she gave him money and he tried to sexually assault her.
The victim told him her family was on the way and he left. Horry County police later arrested Smith, based on their investigation and the victim's recognition of Smith.
Smith entered his guilty plea as his trial before Judge Steven John was set to begin. Judge John sentenced Smith to 25 years.
Assistant Solicitor Lively said because the offenses are classified as violent, he's required to serve no less than 85% of his sentence before he will be eligible for parole.
