The Marlboro County School District plans to pay back nearly $100,000 to the state.
In October, the South Carolina Department of Education started investigating the district for misusing federal funds. It involved scholarship money for teachers to take online classes between 2005 and 2007.
The state says it's findings show several teachers didn't qualify for the classes under federal guidelines.
District administrators tell us there are now checks and balances in place to make sure this doesn't happen again. They're taking $100,000 out of their budget to pay the state back.
They say it's too early to say how that will impact the district's budget.
The district has until March 1st to return the money.
