DILLON, SC -- Officials with the Dillon County Voter Registration Office tell NewsChannel 15 Randolph Gurley did not file for re-election for seat two on Dillon city council.
Gurley was suspended from office in November after he was indicted by the Dillon County Grand Jury on charges of attempted murder, criminal domestic violence and two counts of distribution of marijuana.
The order issued by the Governor's Office said the crimes of attempted murder and criminal domestic violence are crimes involving moral turpitude. Gurley was suspended from office until such time as he is "formally acquitted or convicted."
In August, state police charged Gurley with attempted murder after they say he intentionally ran a man over, following an argument.
Gurley is also charged with distribution of a controlled substance near a school and distribution of cocaine. The Dillon County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division say that charge stems from an investigation that started in June when they say Gurley sold drugs to an undercover agent.
In July, SLED also charged him with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Officers say in that case, his wife filed an incident report saying Gurley threatened her with a knife.
Gurley had been on Dillon city council for 25 years.
A trial date for him has not been set.
