Similar beach rules could be coming to Grand Strand beaches. The Coastal Alliance, made up of city and county leaders, decided Wednesday to start with tents on the beach.
The rules now in place in North Myrtle Beach will serve as a guide.
They include tents can't be larger than 12 feet by 12 feet and they can't be any higher than nine feet.
Also, they're not allowed on the beach between seven at night and eight in the morning.
Wednesday, the alliance appointed a sub committee to figure out what rules with work best with each beach.
Lack's Beach Service says the number of tents has increased dramatically in the last three years and it's become a safety issue.
"It creates such a jungle of structure that if we have a medical emergency in that area or in the surf we can't respond to it adequately with proper vehicles and proper equipment," said George Lack of Lack's Beach's Service.
The alliance also discussed sharing similar rules when it comes to dogs, boats, and surfing. A decision on tents is likely to come soon since the start of the tourist season is almost here.
Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes said, "If we can just nip her and nip there, then hopefully we'll be able to come up with solutions that will be agreeable down the road for everybody."
