Perdue Farms, a chicken processing facility in Dillon County, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to celebrate the opening of its new Wellness Center.
Employees can make appointments to see a doctor at the facility without taking off from work and while still getting paid for the time.
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley attended the event. She praised the company saying they're an example to other companies across the country.
The facility is a $700,000 capital investment. The company broke ground for the center in August.
It includes a fully-equipped on-site clinic, staffed by health care providers. Some of the services offered include pediatric care, blood work, occupational health services, diabetes and blood pressure screenings.
If a worker is hurt on the job, he or she can be treated and stabilized at the Wellness Center.
It will cost employees $15 for a visit. Employees who aren't covered by Perdue's insurance will have to pay $30 per visit.
