A beautiful part of the winter weather might be dangerous for area plants.
Hundreds of trees on the Grand Strand and in the Pee Dee are starting to lose their branches after being weighed down with heavy ice. J&J Tree Removal says they've gotten a few jobs to remove broken branches- mostly from pine or oak trees.
The company's owner, Jimmy Edwards says it's because many limbs were rotten or trees were dead, and they can't support that much weight. They then break, giving way to the ice.
Edwards says that they haven't been nearly as busy as when a major ice storm hit the area back in 2003. They've been averaging a few extra jobs a day since the winter storm began this weekend.
