(AP) -- Snow and ice have put the opening of the South Carolina legislative session on a sliding schedule.
The session was supposed to begin promptly at noon in the House and Senate. The state's $829 million shortfall for the upcoming fiscal year looms as a top issue.
But Monday's snow and the ice that came with it prompted the House to delay its start until at least 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Senate leaders planned to meet with as many members as they could get together at noon. But they also plan to recess before taking up much state business.
It's the first session start in years that's been hampered by snow. And that may make it tougher for interest groups that show up the first day to talk with lawmakers.
