(AP) -- South Carolina is marking the 150th anniversary of its secession from the Union with a discussion of the event that eventually thrust the nation into the Civil War.
It was 150 years ago Friday that a convention meeting in Columbia voted to secede.
State Department of Archives and History director Eric Emerson says after the vote, the convention moved to Charleston where, three days later, the formal Ordinance of Secession was signed and published.
The Ordinance of Secession will be on display at the Charleston Museum on Monday. Later it will be on exhibit at a ball being thrown by the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
