Folks from around Horry County celebrated 16 years worth of work on the County Council Monday night.

A going-away party was held for outgoing Horry County Council Chairman Liz Gilland. The event was held at the Peanut Warehouse in Conway and was attended by friends, fellow local and state politicians, school officials, county employees and many, many more who have worked with Gilland throughout her 16 years on council.

Gilland says she's happiest to have left the county better than she found it.

"If the people knew what I knew about the county government and how well we work in so many areas - we are an outstanding government," said Gilland. "The employees, the accolades, the honors we've received nationally and even internationally, I mean, they've got a strong county government working for their benefit."

Gilland will be replaced by County Council Chairman-Elect Tom Rice. He will be officially sworn into office in January.
