With the change of theme at Dixie Stampede in Myrtle Beach there are going to be some layoffs.

After 19 years on the Grand Strand, Dixie Stampede will become 'Pirates Voyage.'

Each year employees are laid off while the show closes for about a month and a half.  This year, because the show is changing, employees will be laid off for about six months.

Dixie Stampede employs about 170 people, who will all have to reapply for jobs at the new Pirates Voyage next year.  A spokesperson for company says the horse-riders will be given the option to transfer to the other Dixie Stampede theaters in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri, but about 30 performance and technical people will probably lose their jobs because the new show is so different.
