The Harvest Hope Food Bank of the Pee Dee is seeing a significant shortfall in donations needed to meet demand.

The charity says it distributes 2.5 million pounds of food monthly through its food pantries and 400 member agencies.

Next week, the Harvest Hope children's feeding programs will begin and they need food to stock shelves that have been empty all summer.

Harvest Hope is also operating about 40 Mobile Food Pantries taking food daily to hungry people and families in rural areas.

They're asking for donations of canned goods and other nutritious non-perishable food, in addition to monetary donations to help purchase meat products.

Donations can be made at the Pee Dee office at 2513 West Lucas Street at the State Farmer's Market on weekdays. For more information on how to donate, please call (843) 661-0826.
