There will be a new candidate on the ballot for Horry County Council.
The Horry County Elections Commission Friday approved placing R.A. Johnson, 25, on the ballot in the County Council District 11 race in November.
Johnson petitioned for the right to be placed on the ballot. Incumbent Republican Al Allen challenged the validity of some of the 800-plus signatures that Johnson had collected.
But the commission confirmed 528 valid names, which was more than enough to make Johnson eligible.
Johnson says he decided to run after getting involved in another campaign.
"I was actually involved in the Clark Parker for Congress campaign and then I decided when I was approached by several folks and encouraged to run as a petition candidate."
The Elections Commission also approved placing former Myrtle Beach High School tennis coach Rivers Lynch on the ballot in the District Two school board race.
