Surfside Beach Town Council decided Tuesday night to create a conflict of interest ordinance.
Talk of the ordinance came about after a bid for Nibil's Restaurant on the town-owned pier.
One bid came from the owner of Nibil's, the other from an LLC belonging to local television personality Cecil Chandler. Chandler is employed by WPDE, he does not work in the news department.
Former Town Administrator Ed Booth and a former town attorney worked with Cecil Chandler on the bid.
Councilman Doug Samples says a rule against conflicts of interest is necessary.
He said, "When you're involved in public service, it's a special job, and we need to ensure that where there are conflicts, that they're known, that they are disclosed, because we are a small community."
Council is expected to have first reading of the new ordinance at their next meeting.
