Twelve boys, ages 11 through 14, graduated from the Hartsville Police Department Youth Academy Friday. The ceremony took place at Lakeview Baptist Church.
The boys spent four weeks at the academy learning honor, respect and discipline. They went through a physical fitness routine every morning.
Throughout the camp, they learned about the history of Hartsville by visiting museums and doing research projects.
Highway Patrol officers talked with the boys about the dangers of alcohol abuse and drinking and driving.
The boys also performed community service projects to teach them the importance of having pride in their community.
This is the 14th year of the Hartsville Police Youth Academy. Police say their goal and mission of the camp is to help the students become productive citizens in their community. The police department held a camp for girls earlier in the summer.
