A boy was bitten by a shark Monday in Myrtle Beach.
Rescue crews responded to the 69th Avenue North area of the beach in reference to a shark bite just after 10:30 Monday morning.
Myrtle Beach police say the 10-year-old boy from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania was taken to the hospital for a cut to the leg.
Witnesses say the boy was alert and conscious when EMS arrived.
Linda Natale of Albany, NY told NewsChannel 15, "When we were standing by the edge of the water, a lady next to me said she saw a shark. Very close, like the first break of waves."
An expert with the Department of Natural Resources reviewed pictures of the bite and says it was from a shark, possibly a black tip.
The International Shark Attack File maintained by the University of Florida says there have been 64 reports of unprovoked shark attacks off the South Carolina coast since 1837.
