The Mayor of Florence publicly endorsed a city council candidate who is running against incumbent councilman, Ed Robinson.

Wednesday morning , Mayor Stephen Wukela held a news conference saying why he wants Pat Gibson-Hye to unseat Robinson for district two.

Robinson has held that council seat for 21 years. Wukela says during that time there has been no positive change for residents in northeast Florence.

He says Robinson is all talk and hard to work with on council.

"Unfortunately, the current leadership is just one that can be worked with and in that kind of desperate situation I think it's my obligation as mayor to tell the public, the constituents from that district, that I need help and who I think can help me," Mayor Stephen Wukela said.
