CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Families of eight of the nine firefighters who died in a fatal South Carolina furniture store fire have settled with another group of defendants for more than $1.2 million.
Following the June 18, 2007 fire at the Sofa Super Store, the families of the firefighters sued 30 defendants, including the store, various furniture manufacturers and other companies.
Court documents show that settlements were approved last month with eight of those defendants in Charleston County Court for just over $1.2 million.
In late 2008, 12 of the 30 original defendants settled for $5.6 million divided among the families who sued.
