The S.C. Highway Patrol released information today about the number of calls for service and collisions during the snow storm that hit the state last weekend.

The incidents include stalled motor vehicles, stranded motorists, traffic stops or collisions, etc. The time frame focused on is from 3 p.m. on Friday, February 12, to noon on Sunday, February 14.

Highway Patrol also compared the statistics to the weekend before, a "typical" weekend, when there was no inclement weather. The same time frame was used.

Statewide, Highway Patrol responded to a total of 6,454 incidents between 3pm Friday, February 12th and noon Sunday, February 14th. 2,346 of those incidents were actual collisions. During the same time period the weekend before, Highway Patrol responded to 4,333 incidents, and 798 of those were collisions. So troopers responded to 2,121 more incidents than "normal" during the storm, and there were 1,548 more collisions.

In our area during the storm weekend, the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee, which is Troop 5 of the Highway Patrol, there were 1,158 incidents, 281 of which were collisions. During the same time frame the weekend before there were 852 incidents, 130 of which were collisions.

Keep in mind, these are only the incidents to which Highway Patrol responded. Accidents in municipalities, like Myrtle Beach for example, are not counted in these figures.
