At its regular meeting, the Florence One Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Carol Holliday-Schweitz as principal of Timrod Elementary School, effective July 1, 2010. Holliday-Schweitz will replace Thurmond Williams who is retiring at the end of this school year.
Currently, Holliday-Schweitz is employed as Curriculum Coordinator at Carver Elementary where she served for the past 10 years. Prior to her employment at Carver, she served as
Curriculum Coordinator at Delmae Elementary for six years, from 1994-2000. She began teaching in Florence One in 1994 at Dewey Carter Elementary where she taught all elementary school subjects. Her teaching career began in Marlboro County in 1981 where she served over a span of six years. In addition, she also served in the public schools of North Carolina for a year after her stint in Marlboro County.
Holliday-Schweitz received both the Bachelor of Science and the Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University. She also earned the Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. Her listing of post-graduate studies range from 1987 to the 2009, and she has been active in presenting leadership activities for teachers at the local, state and national level.
Twice, Holliday-Schweitz has been named Teacher of the Year: in 1994 at Dewey Carter Elementary, and in 2009 at Carver Elementary. She is a past recipient of the state and national Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching and she also serves the Department of Education as a member of their selection committees for Red Carpet Schools and for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching.
