The mother of a Florence man, who was shot three times by a police officer, says the mayor is turning her son's situation into a political battle with City Councilman Ed Robinson.
Monday afternoon, Blondell James held a news conference in Florence. Two weeks ago, a Florence police officer shot her son, Antoine James, three times on Oakland Avenue.
Police say James was trying to use his car to run over the officer. Blondell James says she doesn't want her son's situation used for political gain by Florence Mayor Stephen Wukela. "I didn't understand the mayor would come and say what he said, like Mr. Ed is doing this for to get re-elected. This is not about being re-elected, this is about justice," said Blondell James.
James says she is also upset that police didn't initially release that two teenagers were in the car with her son when he was shot.
Her son faces charges in connection with the incident.
