A very special group of wounded U.S. service men and women is spending a few days on the Grand Strand.
Saturday NewsChannel 15 caught up with the group of Wounded Warriors. All of them are being treated at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC.
The Wounded Warriors say this week's trip to the beach has been a much-needed and appreciated get away.
They stopped in Murrells Inlet for lunch at Creek Ratz Saturday.
We spoke with Army Specialist Rick Zimmerman, who, in October of 2007, nearly died in Iraq.
"I was hit with an IED, a roadside bomb. It shattered the right side of my skull. Due to the hemorrhaging and bruising and the pressure, they had to cut that section out to relieve the pressure or I would have died," said Specialist Zimmerman.
He has been at Walter Reed for two and a half years and is expected to be released this September.
