CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- College and universities in South Carolina are feeling the effects of state budget cuts.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday that the state has cut its contribution to the schools' budgets by 9 percent since July.
Students face the prospect of larger classes and fewer courses this year.
University of South Carolina vice president Ted Moore says the school planned for additional cuts, so students shouldn't see significant changes.
But Moore says the university has 250 fewer faculty and staff than the last academic year.
Clemson University spokeswoman Cathy Sams says the school has lost $52 million in state funding since mid-2008, more than $11 million in the past six months.
Sams says Clemson has eliminated 450 faculty and staff positions and that will affect class size and other services.
