(AP) -- A South Carolina teen who was killed in a wreck has been posthumously awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported Thursday that Luke Hoover of Fort Mill was one step away from becoming an Eagle Scout when he died Oct. 16.
Hoover had earned 21 merit badges and completed a service project by renovating the playground at his church, Fort Mill First Church of the Nazarene. He had done everything except write a paper about his experience and face a review board.
More than 200 people attended a mid-December ceremony in which Troop 250 presented the award. Luke's parents received his Eagle certificate, badge and medallion.
Randy Hoover says his son would have been proud.
