GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina authorities say several people protesting coal energy climbed on top of a nearly 1 million pound generator part bound for North Carolina.

Greenville County Master Deputy Melissia (Muh-LIS-ee-uh) McKinney says four people scaled a fence and climbed to the top of the equipment around 8:45 a.m. Monday and refused to get down.

Duke Energy has spent the past two months slowly moving the massive part through South Carolina to a power generating plant under construction near Cliffside, N.C.

Asheville Rising Tide spokesman Attila Nemecz (Ah-TIL-uh NEM-ah-tist) says two protesters stayed on top of the equipment for more than an hour before deputies cut them from a device locking them to the equipment and arrested them.

Duke Energy says the protest shouldn't slow the move.
