Horry County police intervened in a fight involving a group of students at North Myrtle Beach High School Friday morning.
The school's principal says the fight, which started shortly after 8 Friday morning, involved 6 male students, 15 to 17 years old. They have all been suspended from school, pending hearings.
The principal, Trevor Strawderman, says fights like this are rare at his school. According to Strawderman, "Usually when you have students fighting in large groups, it's something certainly we take very serious and we have a zero tolerance for any kind of violence here at North Myrtle Beach High School."
The mother of one of those involved says her son was a victim, but has been labeled a troublemaker. "I see it just like, I don't care what happened, if five kids jump on one kid, it's still his fault. somehow, he started it," said Lisa Morse.
Strawderman says no weapons were involved.
A police spokesman says there will be charges against some students. The investigation is still going on.
