A man arrested in South Carolina in 2007 on terrorism-related charges has been released from federal custody.

Youssef Megahed and a fellow University of South Florida student were arrested two years ago while driving through Goose Creek in Berkley County.

Police say they found homemade model rocket parts in the trunk of their car which looked like pipe bombs. But a Miami immigration judge signed a release order Friday for Megahed.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Megahed in April just days after a jury found him not guilty on those previous federal explosives charges.

"It was not a very pleasant experience, but then the truth came out, and all the government allegations were wrong and baseless," said Megahed at a press conference upon being released from federal custody.

Megahed's fellow University of South Florida student pleaded guilty to the terrorism-related charges and was jailed.
