Friday, the governor held his first cabinet meeting since announcing he'd been unfaithful to his wife with a woman from Argentina.
Cabinet members anxiously awaited Governor Sanford's remarks Friday, at the start of the cabinet meeting. Before he addressed the agenda, the governor asked his cabinet for forgiveness. "I wanted to apologize to everyone of you all for letting you down."
He gave a special apologies to Reggie Lloyd, the Director of the State Law Enforcement Division and Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor.
"I owe it to you Reggie for putting you in a bad place with regards to SLED and the members of SLED in leaving as a I had." "I owe it to you very specifically Joe, to the team at Commerce."
From there it was business as usual. And after about a half an hour, the meeting ended with a 'thank you' from the governor.
From there, he talked with reporters outside. The first question, will he resign? The governor says he doesn't know.
"You take everything a day at a time. I wouldn't say anything definitive at this point. I say my hunch at a variety of different levels will be to continue on."
When asked if what he thinks about his wife's comments to the media, Sanford says he understands her situation and gives her credit for being under a lot of pressure.
"She has been there with a team of media camped out at the front yard and that's hard."
The governor said he's no longer in contact with his mistress. He says he will do some much needed soul searching over the weekend. "I'm going to think about it, pray about it, and talk to friends about it over the days and weeks ahead."
Sanford compared his situation to that of King David in the bible, saying he too fell down but got back up.
