A little less than a week ago, a boat with six aboard capsized off Sandy Island. Three people died. Tuesday afternoon, they were laid to rest.
The crowd was tremendous. More than a thousand people were there to mourn the losses.
Not a seat was left in the school's gymnasium, and people were left standing in the aisles.
There was music, some laughter, and a lot of tears.
Laid out front were the caskets of 17-year-old Rishard Pyatt, 47-year-old Lou Anne Robinson, and her 19-year-old daughter Shaquatia Robinson.
A number of people spoke at he service, telling stories of each of the victims.
Rishard's basketball coach gave a moving eulogy, praising Rishard's strong character.
Shaquatia's fiance, a US Marine, spoke lovingly of the wife he'll never have and the child left behind to raise.
Their child, you may remember, was a one-year-old who survived the boat accident.
Lou Ann, the one year old's grandmother, was remembered for her humor and love of family.
Family and friends left the high school after the service and headed to New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church on Sandy Island for a private burial.
The Department of Natural Resources and the US Coast Guard are still investigating why the boat capsized.
