Over the next few weeks, there will be an effort to identify Myrtle Beach's homeless population.

Thursday morning, the Total Care for Homeless Coalition held a meeting asking for help in counting the number of homeless.

They do it every two years, but they say, this year is going to be different.

"In year's past, we've done that by going to where we think there are homeless people, whether it's the woods or the homeless shelters. This year we're going to where people get services so that we can get a better idea of whose out, whose homeless, make sure we're not double counting anybody," said Mark Kruea, with the City of Myrtle Beach.

The information they gather will be sent to state agencies to be analyzed.

The information can be useful in securing grants to help with issues facing the homeless.
