A traffic stop Monday morning that led to a chase and eventually a wreck, also led to the seizure of 2 kilograms of cocaine and crack cocaine and $70,000 in cash, according to Horry County police.
Detectives with Horry County police's narcotics team, as well as agents with the US Drug Enforcement Administration, tried to stop the car around 10:25am on Highway 501.
Detectives initiated the stop as part of an investigation into possible illegal drug trafficking.
The driver of the car stopped on Highway 501 and got out of the car, according to detectives. But then, they say, a passenger jumped into the driver's seat and put the car into reverse.
He struck a detective's car, knocked the detective to the ground, and then put it in drive and took off, police said.
Detectives and agents chased the car for about five miles to Highway 501 near the Highway 22 ramp, when the driver crashed into a fence. A short foot chase ended with two suspects being taken into custody.
Three handguns were also seized from the suspects' car.
All three suspects, Laquinta Oshay Singleton, Tariq Simone Zachery, and Anrique Rashad Zachery, were taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where they are awaiting Federal charges from the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
