Horry County Fire Rescue battled a house fire Saturday afternoon. Just after 2 pm they were called to a home on Collins Circle off highway 90 in Longs.

Capt. David Howell said the fire started in the rear of the home and was almost completely involved when they arrived.

Neighbors say an elderly woman lived in the home.

Everyone inside was able to get out of the home, which is a complete loss, according to Howell.

About an hour after firefighters arrived they were still putting out hot spots.

Because the nearest fire hydrant was more than 1,300 feet away, it took firefighters about 10 to 15 minutes to set up hoses, according to Howell.

The cause is under investigation.
